The frigid weather did not seem to slow down the North Langley Junior Bantam BEARS this Saturday when they took on the Chilliwack GIANTS blue team this Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park.
The BEARS received the opening kickoff and completed their first possession with a hand off to Mathieu GALE who ran it in for the BEARS first touchdown. With the help of the defense and recovering their own kick offs the BEARS dominated time of possession in the first half of the game. Braedon VANMUYEN would make a great catch to give the BEARS their second touchdown of the game heading into the locker room at half time with the score 16-6 BEARS.
BEARS defense, with some outstanding play by Ethan SLEDDING, Kaden BELL and Nick REIMER, worked well as a team to frustrate the GIANTS offense. The GIANTS attempted to gain momentum in the beginning of the third quarter with the BEARS up by only two points. But a composed BEARS defense would come up big to force a turn over on downs and get the ball back into the hands of the offense.
The game remained close until part way through the third quarter when the BEARS persistence paid off. A solid offensive line allowed QB Owen SEIBEN the time to set up the running game as well as a passing attack. Power running and by Jordan TOMICA and Grayson GEHRER kept the ball in the BEARS possession and set up three more BEARS touchdowns.
GALE would have an outstanding game with 5 catches and multiple carries on offense including 3 of the BEARS 5 touchdowns. GALE would also turn around and play defense getting in on a number of tackles and playing a big part in stopping the GIANTS.
BEARS were victorious 40 – 20 over the GIANTS.
